6/12/2023 0 Comments Gunmetal Lily by Rebecca Royce![]() ![]() But that in itself is what rubbed me the wrong way. ![]() I did love that in spite of being unable to be together physically, Lily and Alejandro formed a strong emotional bond, and eventually that last barrier was overcome. This quickly led to Lily and the brothers falling hard for each other. To keep this from negatively affecting his new wife he asks his younger brothers to take care of keeping her sexually satisfied. Alejandro was the victim of extreme sexual abuse as a child and as a result, has never been able to experience sexual arousal. But my biggest complaint here is the plot point that led to this becoming a reverse harem. The writing style felt a little off to me but I can’t quite put my finger on why. ![]() I would have liked to see a bit more struggle between Lily and Alejandro, though I will admit seeing a strong bond from the get go was pretty nice. ![]() There wasn’t a whole lot of conflict in the actual romance of the story, and while the external conflict was interesting and handled in a satisfying way, it just sort of fell flat. I don’t have a whole lot to say about this installment. Book 2 of the Mafia Wars series sees Lily, daughter of the Italian mafia, married off to Alejandro Hernandez, heir to the Mexican Cartel and eldest brother of Rosa, the heroine of book 1. ![]()

Revival is one of King’s newer books, and centers on Jamie Morton, who as a child befriends a pastor who tries to save his brother from dying. ![]() Yes, there are a lot of King adaptations doing the rounds right now, but these are the ones we really want to see, with our choice for director. 5 Stephen King movies we want to see made Chuck in the all-American John Travolta, Amy Irving and Nancy Allen as the high-school villains and what you have is a deeply unsettling movie about fear, anxiety and humiliation… and that’s before it descends into true horror. Shot like a Giallo with dreamy blood-stained imagery, DePalm’s film is a casting masterclass: Sissy Spacek is the perfect Carrie, Piper Laurie horrific as the overbearing mother. It’s Stephen King’s first novel, famously saved from the trash by the author’s wife, and it's a story that captures the terrors of being a teenager – albeit one with telekinetic powers – while swiping at religion and promoting feminism along the way. Unfairly dismissed as a Hitchcock wannabe, director Brian DePalma is much more than that – and Carrie is his masterpiece. ![]() ![]() ![]() then we got the blackboard scene mentioned above and I became impressed with how the book started handling both her social awkwardness and her attempts at overcoming it. ![]() I mean, it had a few funny scenes, but it initially just wasn't working for me. During the initial set-up chapters, I was pretty sure that I was going to consider this one a disappointment. The chapters were all extremely short and rather awkward. So, this one was a bit rough at the start. Thus Tadano has a new goal, helping Komi at least try to communicate. Through a (wonderful) scene where they communicate on the class blackboard, he realizes that she's wanted to make friends for some time but can't talk to people. After a few interactions, he starts realizing that it's not cold aloofness like others think, but rather extreme social anxiety. He meets Komi who is one of the most popular girls in class, but also one of the most unapproachable. His goal is to pretty much go unnoticed (middle school was a nightmare of bullying and being a social outcast from what little we get from his background). The plot follows Tadano as he starts high school. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The table was cluttered with papers and maps, and their search for Pierce was underway. This book left me literally not knowing how I felt. I just finished reading this books moments ago, and I am incredibly speechless. If you are bothered by incest, now would be a good time to back out of this review. Also, I should give a word of warning for anyone stumbling on this review, as this book deals with a dark subject matter that not everyone may be comfortable seeing discussed.
